International baccalaureate
Herningsholm Gymnasium (hhx and htx) and Herning Gymnasium (stx) are working as collaborating partner schools to be able to offer the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Programme.
The education is taught in English and is internationally recognized as a pre-qualification for university studies.
It is our aim to be able to provide the students with this opportunity as the Herning area is comprised of many large companies with employees representing many different countries. It is of great importance that the children of these internationally oriented employees can receive an education in the community in which the parents work. Both Herning Municipality and the companies within the area support this initiative.
Herningsholm Gymnasium and Herning Gymnasium have now been approved by the International IB organisation in Geneva (for further information please visit www.ibo.org) and we can now offer the Diploma Programme - IB. Characteristic for both schools are high educational standards and internationally oriented educations. Herning Gymnasium and Herningsholm Gymnasium are now awaiting the approval of the Danish Ministry of Education in order to offer the IB education.
Ms. Kelli Nørgaard from Herning Gymnasium is employed as IB programme coordinator. She is very experienced with IB from her former employment as Head of a school in Texas, USA, hosting the IB programme.
We expect to be able to offer the IB Diploma Programme as of 2011.

IB (International baccalaureate) i Herning
Herningsholm Gymnasium (hhx og htx) og Herning Gymnasium (stx) arbejder sammen om at kunne tilbyde den internationale studentereksamen IB (International Baccalaureate). Det er en uddannelse, der foregår på engelsk, og som er internationalt anerkendt som adgangsgivende til universitetsuddannelser.
Gymnasierne ønsker at kunne tilbyde den mulighed, fordi Herning-området har store virksomheder med medarbejdere fra forskellige lande. Det er af stor betydning, at disse internationalt orienterede medarbejderes børn kan få en ungdomsuddannelse der, hvor forældrene arbejder. Både Herning Kommune og egnens virksomheder støtter skolernes initiativ.
Herning Gymnasium og Herningsholm Gymnasium er blevet godkendt af den internationale IB-organisation i Geneve (se nærmere informationer på hjemmesiden www.ibo.org) til at udbyde den internationale studentereksamen - IB. Fælles for IB-skoler er, at de tilbyder en høj faglig kvalitet og en internationalt orienteret uddannelse. Herning Gymnasium og Herningsholm Gymnasium mangler nu blot tilladelse af Undervisningsministeriet til at udbyde uddannelsen.
Som IB-koordinator er Kelli Nørgaard fra Herning Gymnasium ansvarlig. Hun har stor erfaring med IB fra sin tidligere stilling som leder på en skole i Texas, USA, der har IB-uddannelsen.
Vi forventer, at uddannelsen kan udbydes fra 2011.
